As a puppy owner, it is your duty to establish dominance in the relationship from the beginning. If you are serious about owning a dog from the beginning puppy stage until he/she is full grown, you have to know how to train them. Having a disobedient dog can have severe consequences, up to and including, a law suit if someone is injured. Make sure you protect yourself by training your dog properly. Most would be amazed at just how easy it is to train your dog:

Basics

o Designate an area for outdoor elimination and guide the puppy there each time he/she has to go. When the puppy eliminates successfully in his/her spot, reward them with a treat.

o Create a command word and use it consistently when taking the puppy outdoors for elimination. Something like: “Go Potty,” “Go Pee,” “Hurrywill work perfectly.

o Give your puppy a treat for successful outdoor eliminations and when he/she comes when you call.

Advanced

o Do not scold your puppy by hitting. A sharpNOor other phrase coupled with a stomp on the floor should work just fine. A dog can become fearful and/or aggressive if they are abused physically.

o Teach your puppy to sit by gently pushing his/her bottom to the ground while sayingsit.” Give them a treat each time after they start doing it on their own.

o Teach the puppy to stay by putting your hand up with your palm facing out and repeatingstay.” Give him/her a treat after they stay for at least 10 seconds.

o Practice the Wait command by using a familiar hand gesture in front of the puppy’s nose. This command will make your puppy wait in the generally vicinity until you tell them otherwise. This command is invaluable when entering a car, closing a door, bringing food out, etc.

If you ask any expert in puppies training, they will tell you that obedience training is essential not only for your convenience but for the safety of your puppy too. When you are carrying out obedience training for your puppy, you will also have to be actively involved regardless of whether you are training him on your own at home or you have engaged the help of a professional. As such, it will be a good opportunity for you to develop bonding with your new pet and this close relationship will last a lifetime.

For a new puppy owner, puppies training might seem intimidating and time consuming. However, if you consider the great benefits for both you and your puppy, you will find that it is all worthwhile.

Nobody is likely to be home with his puppy all day long so if the puppy is trained, he will not feel depressed and start crying the whole day. Such depression will only lead him to grow up into an aggressive dog or to be so fearful that he loses his self-esteem.

One highly recommended way for puppies training is to understand how animals react to specific stimuli. Such understanding is important because you can then make use of whatever you have found to drive your pet so that your puppy learns better. In fact, any dog trainer will advocate this method of training because they have preformed numerous studies on the nature and flexibility of the canine drive and found positive results.

It is vital to understand how your puppy reacts to stimuli so that you can press the right button. You can teach more effectively if you are able to encourage your puppy’s positive drive instead of the negative ones. Having a professional trainer as a guide will ensure that you do not go wrong as they have the necessary skills to understand better. However, it might help you to know that your puppy’s behavior will be affected by prey, play, pack, defense as well as food. All these factors play equally important roles but there might be an instinct that dominates more obviously, depending on the breed of your puppy.

Whether or not you are engaging the service of a professional puppy trainer, you will want to learn that puppies learn best by first learning how to play. Yes, surprising as it might seem, but puppies training involve taking over the role of the puppy’s parent as well. Since you have taken over the role of the parent for your puppy, it is also your responsibility to teach your puppy how to jump around and have fun with you. That will also help you to develop the bond between you and your puppy.

Training your puppy can be a sweet chore or notespecially on its first week. The first week of training can be very critical. Not to mention, there are many things every pup owner must have to and they include puppy chow, collar, leash, toys, to name a few. Since your puppy is going to be a part of your family, it is only important that you give it the best treatment, as you would give any member of your clan.

Always remember that the first week of can be full of fun, enthusiasm and full of emotionseverybody in your family wants to feed the baby, wants to play with it as well. Sure, most of you wanted the puppy to sleep in the crate, but the moment those cute, adorable puppy eyes stare at you, you just wanted to cuddle with it in your bed!

So mostly, without a doubt, the puppy sleeps on your bed and the next night, you wanted it to sleep in the crate, but the puppy being used (yes, even one night alone can be addicting to the little pup) to a soft mattress wanted to spend the night with you again. And when you don’t allow it too, it barks all night. Suddenly, the little rascal isn’t so adorable anymore, is it? And that is why the first week or the first night of training a puppy is very crucial when it comes to its behavior.

When you are adopting and training a puppy, always bear in mind that it lost its own real family at the same time when you decided to take him in. Your puppy is not just vulnerable, but it has the tendency to get really attached, so instead make it feel secured through routine and disciplineteach it right.

I cannot stress more the significance of obedience training for your dog. Besides it is very big factor to the well being of your dog and your own pleasure in owning a dog.

Dog owners would absolutely enjoy more sharing a house, a car or even spending the time together walking your dog in the public, when your dog can be told to eliminate outside (house training), to come, to sit or to stay easily at your order.

Obedience Training also proved to be a very clear sign of responsible ownership, it is so widely known that if your dog can follow these basic obedience commands as well as walking on leash with ease and some other simple task, your dog can receive the American Kennel Club (AKC) Canine Good Citizen Certification.

This Certification is an evidence that your dog is sociable, well behaved and not dangerous to community. In some state this CGC Certification is a benchmark of your dog behavior and responsible dog ownership.

Dog owners more than others those who are new in general faces challenges in training their dog, it is because they do not understand that dogs think and act different from us. They failed to make much advancement in dog training because they failed to realize that dog communicate differently from us.

The major blunder made by new dog owners is having a lot of command and inconsistency in their training routines. Remember that consistency is very important, do not say 2 words for the same of action that you want your dog to obey.

Here below are some commonly used basic dog obedience commands that you should start with prior going to other more advance command, that will help you as dog owner to feel good bringing your dog for a walk in the park or in public areas.

Come: this command is used to recall your dog

Sit: this command tell your dog to be in sitting position.

Stay: the dog must keep still in any position whether it is sitting, down or in that location where the command is given until released by you

Down: this command tells the dog to go down with its front feet and rear legs are touching the ground.

Here are some information how you can really improve the effectiveness and the speed of your dog learning:

1. At all times you must use the same command words and in the same tone or speed of speaking

2. Have patience, your dog will fail you.

3. The dog has single track mind, teach one thing at a time, do not try to teach a lot of command in one single training session

4. When your dog did anything right or wrong, your rewards and punishment should come almost immediately. Do not punish or reward after a long delay from the act itself because your dog will not be able to connect the two.

5. Develop bonding with your dog by taking him out for an exercise or play with him. All training session should be based on this relationship.

6. Before training your dog, you should get trustworthy dog training manual and go through it thoroughly before starting your dog training session. It is much more difficult to ask your dog to unlearn wrong things than learning new things

7. Do not call your dog to come to you to punish, you will give them wrong understanding that the word come means punishment.

8. Do not allow other people to give any command to your dog especially when you are training him.

9. Do not train your dog when you are not in the mood or when you are not feeling well.

10. Do not get violence with your dog.

Obedience Training is a clear sign of responsible dog ownership. Every responsible dog owner should strive to train his/her dog to at least acquire these basic obedience skills.
