Basic Obedience Training For Puppies to Advanced Obedience Training
Posted by Sarah in Obedience Training For Dogs, tags: Advanced, obedience, puppies, trainingAs a puppy owner, it is your duty to establish dominance in the relationship from the beginning. If you are serious about owning a dog from the beginning puppy stage until he/she is full grown, you have to know how to train them. Having a disobedient dog can have severe consequences, up to and including, a law suit if someone is injured. Make sure you protect yourself by training your dog properly. Most would be amazed at just how easy it is to train your dog:
Basics
o Designate an area for outdoor elimination and guide the puppy there each time he/she has to go. When the puppy eliminates successfully in his/her spot, reward them with a treat.
o Create a command word and use it consistently when taking the puppy outdoors for elimination. Something like: “Go Potty,” “Go Pee,” “Hurry” will work perfectly.
o Give your puppy a treat for successful outdoor eliminations and when he/she comes when you call.
Advanced
o Do not scold your puppy by hitting. A sharp “NO” or other phrase coupled with a stomp on the floor should work just fine. A dog can become fearful and/or aggressive if they are abused physically.
o Teach your puppy to sit by gently pushing his/her bottom to the ground while saying “sit.” Give them a treat each time after they start doing it on their own.
o Teach the puppy to stay by putting your hand up with your palm facing out and repeating “stay.” Give him/her a treat after they stay for at least 10 seconds.
o Practice the Wait command by using a familiar hand gesture in front of the puppy’s nose. This command will make your puppy wait in the generally vicinity until you tell them otherwise. This command is invaluable when entering a car, closing a door, bringing food out, etc.
